Relax to live-music overlooking the Solent this summer
by Rebekah Harley
Get out your picnic blankets, it’s nearly time for our yearly summer weekend of music. Local Lymington resident, Amanda Mann, is once again hosting two performances in the gardens of her wonderful home, Kingfishers. The garden is blanketed with beauty and has a view across the Solent. What better way to enjoy the summer solstice weekend and Father’s Day this year than drinking in the wonder of nature and music?
On Saturday the 20th of June, enjoy an evening of opera in the garden. With the sun still far from setting, enveloped in nature, to a backdrop of the Solent, melt into the velvet soft sound of opera. Soprano Ellie Laugharne, mezzosoprano Hanna Hip, baritone Mark Stone, tenor Colin Judson, and pianist Richard Black will fill the stage with the warm embrace of opera. Doors open at 4:30pm for a 7pm start.
On Sunday the 21st of June, fans of the 1940-60s New Orleans Rhythm & Blues scene will delight in The Cosimo Matassa Project, a London-based music collective paying homage to Cosimo Matassa, the producer who created the New Orleans sound and influenced the development of present-day R&B. Cosimo Matassa worked with artists like Smiley Lewis, Fats Domino, Dave Bartholmew. Playing on Sunday afternoon, which is also Fathers Day, bring along your dad and reignite his passion for the R&B hits of his youth, or discover the sounds that rocked the music scene and influenced the music industry forever. Celebrate the Summer Solstice in style. Doors open at 12:30pm for a 3pm start.
