We are delighted to be able to call ourselves an Award-Winning Charity!!
We were thrilled to bits to win this Prestige Award
Prestige Awards nominated us the Best Mental Health Clinic in Hampshire, 2025-2026 – this means such a lot to us, even though we aren’t exactly a Mental Health Clinic! Still – it’s a terrific boost to us and to our wonderful staff and volunteers, whose hard work has made this possible. We are enormously proud to have won this prestigious award, and immensely grateful to all who have made it happen. HUGE thanks to everyone – including all our wonderful donors and supporters. We’d never have managed it without you all!

Our Christmas gift packages
It seems ages since Christmas, but this is our first Newsletter of the year, so we just want to tell you about our Christmas Gift campaign, and what a wonderful success it was. Thanks to very generous donors including LUSH, Waitrose Lymington, and our local Otter Nurseries, we assembled Christmas packages to give to all our Outreach clients – and they went down so well. It was wonderfully rewarding to be able to bring some festive cheer to the lives of our vulnerable clients, and great to see how pleased they were.

What's in the news?
It’s so great to read some good news for a change!
A garden centre in North East Lincolnshire is helping people with mental health conditions.
Grimsby Garden Centre is owned by not-for-profit Navigo, which runs mental health services on behalf of the NHS.
Patients can be referred to the centre, allowing them to enjoy the outdoors while tending to plants.
Martin, one of the volunteers at the centre, said: “There is no doubt in my mind that spending time in nature and green spaces is beneficial. It has certainly been the case for me.”
Wayne also said he enjoys his time at the centre.
“I was referred here through Navigo and the best thing for me about being here is all of the people I’ve met,” he said.
“Everybody here is so welcoming and nice.”

Further, an article in The Independent tells how research has shown that gardening can improve your mental and physical health. Do we all need to get out and start digging?

Meet the team - Sarah Hannant - CEO

You have been with us for over a year now, and you have contributed an enormous amount to the general operating procedures at Hammersley Homes in your first year. What have you enjoyed and what have you found challenging?
I have really enjoyed getting to know the people who make Hammersley Homes what it is — our team, volunteers, supporters, and, most importantly, the people we serve. It is inspiring to see the impact of our Outreach Programme and the difference it makes in people’s lives.
One of the challenges has been making sure we keep pace with demand. There is so much need for the kind of support we provide, and ensuring we can grow in a way that’s both effective and sustainable takes a lot of strategic planning. However, it’s also a challenge that comes with opportunity — seeing what is possible and finding ways to make it happen.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievements during your first year?
One key achievement has been strengthening our Outreach service, making it more structured and responsive to the needs of our Outreach Members. We have built stronger relationships with the people we support and have expanded and enhanced what we offer by adding group drop-in sessions and regular activities for our Outreach Members to get involved in. It is truly amazing to see how much of a difference our services are making.
Another significant achievement has been improving communication and coordination within our team. Running a charity like Hammersley Homes requires a lot of moving parts to come together, and we have worked hard to create smoother processes so that staff and volunteers can work more efficiently and feel supported in their roles.
Can you describe a “Day in the Life” of our CEO?
No two days are ever the same! One day might involve meeting with the team to discuss Outreach services, exploring new opportunities for funding and partnerships, and planning upcoming events. Another day might be spent working on strategy, making sure we are on track with our goals, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
A lot of my time is spent problem-solving — whether that is responding to a new challenge or looking at opportunities to improve and grow what we do. The most rewarding part of my role is seeing the real impact of our work and hearing from the people we support about how Hammersley Homes has helped them.
Where would you like the Charity to be in two years from now?
I would love to see Hammersley Homes continuing to grow and reaching even more people who need our support. Expanding our Outreach Programme will be a priority, as well as building exciting partnerships that help us strengthen and sustain our work.
Ultimately, our mission is to provide supported housing for people who suffer from ongoing mental health challenges, and in the next two years, I hope we can take real steps towards making that a reality. In the meantime, we will continue to develop our community-based support, ensuring that people with serious mental illness have the stability and assistance they need to live safely and independently.
